SINGERS, choirs, groups and duos are being urged to sign up for this year’s Musicathon, with less than a month until the big day.

The event has become a popular date in the Bridport calendar, thanks to the efforts of Jo O’Farrell, the founder who sadly died last year.

However, organisers have said they will keep the tradition alive, which last year marked 10 years, and the event will return on Saturday, June 8 at Bridport United Church.

There will be musical performances from all ages throughout the day from 9am to 5pm, raising money for The Richard Ely Trust for Young Musicians and Dorset County Hospital Charity Chemotherapy Appeal.

The Richard Ely Trust for Young Musicians supports young people aged from five to 20-years-old in Dorset to undertake music tuition to be able to expand their interest in music.

Dorset County Hospital Charity Chemotherapy Appeal aims to upgrade the hospital’s existing chemotherapy unit, giving patients access to an improved environment when they receive treatment.

Roz Copson and members of The Living Tree, a cancer support group co-founded by Jo, will be organising a charity stall in Bucky Doo Square on the same day from 10am to 12.30pm to support the Musicathon. Any contributions will be welcome.

Individuals, duos or groups that would like to perform can book 15 minutes slots, or longer, by calling Vince O’Farrell on 01308 427851, emailing vince@jovian.co.uk or calling Pat Crawford on 01308 456297.

Sponsor forms and posters are available from Good Books in Gundry Lane, which is open from 9am to 1pm on weekdays and 10am to 12noon on Saturdays.
