SHOPPERS have raised more than £450 for a west Dorset coastwatch station.
Volunteers at National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) Lyme Bay were presented with a cheque for £485 from staff at Waitrose in Bridport.
The money was raised through the shop’s Community Matters green token scheme, which allows shoppers to vote for a good cause they would like to support by placing a green token in the relevant box.
NCI Lyme Bay’s station manager Judy Clarke and treasurer Graeme Gemmill collected the cheque on behalf of the charity from Laura Broad, Waitrose Community Matters Champion.
The NCI Lyme Bay has two lookout stations, one at Burton Bradstock and the other at Charmouth.
The team offer a watchful eye over Lyme Bay as well as offering radio checks and giving weather and tide information.
The NCI is a voluntary organisation, set up in 1994 to restore a visual watch along UK shores after many small coastguard stations closed.
The Lyme Bay National Coastwatch Station at Burton Bradstock was set up 2010.
