THE REV'D PHILIP RINGER, WEST BAY

The ferocious weather on Saturday led to some spectacular coastal photographic opportunities, but not much else. However, by Sunday the wind had subsided considerably so the much awaited car boot sale could go ahead as planned. It was very well attended. Let's hope that's a sign of good times ahead when most of the areas normally visited at the bay are closed.

Thank you to al the locals and visitors who supported the bank holiday book sale at the church. It raised £83 towards church funds.

On Sunday in excess of 40 motor cycles set off from The Crown to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Their ride took them to Stalbridge returning to Bridport via different routes just after 3pm. A fantastic raffle and auction then took place.

The Brit Valley Rotary Club cream teas at The Salt House did their best in uncertain circumstances with few people about during the afternoon. Certainly, the work on the area outside the George has had a serious impact on bikers and trade at the kiosks.

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs' 'drive it day' encouraged several classic car owners to get out their vehicles to mark the day. The first one I took an interest in was a 1963 MGB that had been owned by the same man for more than 20 years. He lives locally and was on his way home from a lunch time trip to Lulworth. The second that caught my eye was an early Austin Seven convertible parked at The Crown.

The May edition of the Bridge, the parish magazine, is now available in churches. This month's edition carries an article about Thomas Fowler, a local tradesman, who built St. John's in 1939. The local correspondent for the Bridge is Mrs Sue Pollock who is taking part in Try a Triathlon on May 12, starting at Bridport Leisure Centre at 9am. She will be raising funds for 'Go Girls' a charity supporting women with gynaecological cancers, raising awareness and campaigning for earlier diagnosis and improved treatments. If you would like to sponsor Sue in this incredible effort please go to justgiving.com/fundraising/Sue-Pollock2.

The Bridport and District Model Railway Club will hold an open day in The Salt House on Sunday, May 5 between 10am and 4pm. Admission is £1 per adult, children free. There will be layouts and a test track. Light refreshments will be available.
