ONE man has died and one man is seriously injured following a crash on the A35 between two lorries.
A lorry driver has died and a second left seriously injured following a collision between two HGVs in Axminster this morning [29 April].
Police, fire and ambulance were called at 5.50am following the head-on collision on the A35 Gammons Hill at Kilmington Cross.
Both male drivers were trapped in their vehicles.
One driver, a 54-year-old man from Winchester, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second driver, aged 35 and from Bristol, sustained serious head and leg injuries, and was extracted from the truck by the fire service. He was airlifted to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital but later flown to Derriford Hospital.
The A35 remains closed while specialist roads policing officers carry out an examination of the scene and the vehicles are recovered.
The road is expected to remain shut until 9pm at the earliest; diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
