On Wednesday of last week, amid the mist that shrouded our coast line, Lucy Thorogood and David Williamson were married in St. John's Church. There was a crowd outside the church to greet the bride and an even larger group of wellwishers outside after the service. They were joined by the congregation whilst photographs were taken on Harbour Green, and in the atmospheric conditions of West Pier, before the couple joined their guests at the Tithe Barn, Symondsbury for a reception.

Car parking on the clearway along Marsh Barn Road certainly drew further criticism on Saturday and Sunday. My informant tells me that on Sunday fixed penalty notices were issued to offending vehicles. I find this quite astonishing as there have been plenty of public warnings through this column and social media. Maybe at last the penny will drop and motorist will comply. If the Bay is full and there is nowhere to park I am afraid that's the way it is. Please come back another day, earlier if possible, and try again.

The Bridport Art Society exhibition in the Salt House did extremely well for visitors, some taking welcome respite from the scorching conditions outside. Although not many paintings had been sold by Sunday afternoon, more than 600 people had visited and voted for their favourite painting. There was a good variety of subjects including plenty of the harbour with its rich variety of boats.

The wonderful sunrise on Easter day welcomed more than 50 people to the dawn service on East Pier led by Churches Together in Bridport and District. Many regular attenders were present, together with a number of people who attended for the first time, including holidaymakers. One couple, who came from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, left home even before I got up to come to the service and then went on to the Christian Fellowship in King Street later in the morning. The queue for coffee and muffins, kindly donated by Morrisons, was soon served and many folk lingered before continuing to other services elsewhere.

Sunday, April 28, marks the long-awaited return on the West Bay car boot sale. I hope parking does not become a problem.

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs is also holding its 'drive it day' for classic cars next Sunday. Look out for classic cars as owners are encouraged to 'drive it' that day. This Sunday, a 1971 registered Triumph Sprite was parked outside the Cornish Bakery and a 1973 registered Morgan 4 plus 4 was outside the church. Both appeared to be in almost concours condition and worthy of attention from fans like myself.
