Residents have been reminded that cycling is no longer allowed on the promenade between the hours of 10am and 17.30pm.

This is part of the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The PSPO also includes the prohibition of begging, intentionally feeding seagulls and failing to stop consuming alcohol or failing to surrender alcohol when a constable or authorised officer has instructed you to do so.

While the other three rules are in place all year, the cycling rule only came into force on Good Friday and will remain in place until October 31.

Cyclists are being warned that failing to comply with the PSPO is a criminal offence.

These offences carry a maximum penalty upon conviction of a fine up to £1,000 and offences may also be dealt with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100.
