FOR the second year, cyclist Daniel Case became the top fundraiser in the 2018 Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.

Dan who lost his mother to cancer in 2017 and works for Sunseeker International, raised £2,122 for Macmillan, making a total of £3,427 over two years.

He was supported by fellow cyclist and trainer Mesha Moinirad from First Class Fitness

He said: “Last year was a great challenge for both Mesha and myself. Neither of us had ever cycled 100 miles before, so we were both a little apprehensive and determined at the same time.

"The event was amazing with a fantastic atmosphere before the ride had started. I had the pleasure of waving the flag and leading out the cyclists wearing the number 1 on my ride jersey. This year I have decided to not take part, but instead to volunteer throughout the day. Good luck to all taking part this year, see you at the finish line. Ride safe!”

In 2018 a record number of riders rode the challenging 100 mile route. Organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said: “The cyclists taking on the 100 miles made a significant contribution to the amount we raised last year so we hope more riders will join them this year. With more e-bikes available on the market now, more people can have a go at longer distances.”

Online entry for the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, now in its 31st year, is open. There are four circular courses at 38, 48, 63, and 100 miles, starting at Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground. For more details of how to enter, or volunteer, visit macmillanbikeride.co.uk or call 01202 601705.
