STEP into nature this spring and enjoy what west Dorset has to offer.

The team at West Bay Discovery Centre is inviting everyone to discover the wildlife around West Bay for their second Stepping into Nature walk this year.

The leisurely walk starts from the discovery centre at 10.45am on Thursday, April 25 and will last around 45 minutes.

The guided tour aims to entertain, inform and encourage people to interact with West Bay’s unique landscape.

John West, of West Bay Discovery Centre, said: “Despite all the major engineering work that is going on around West Bay at the moment, there is still plenty of activity in the natural world too.

“This gentle stroll around West Bay gives an introduction to wildlife around West Bay with ideas of where to go and what you might see locally.”

The walk is part of a monthly programme running through to October, run with the support of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Stepping into Nature programme is a three-year Big Lottery funded project that uses Dorset’s natural and cultural landscape to provide activities and sensory-rich places for older people, including those with dementia and older people.

The project aims for people to improve psychologically and physically, reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, increase motivation and independence through increased provision and information for accessing the natural landscape and increase confidence and life skills.

Each monthly Stepping into Nature walk focusses on a specific aspect of West Bay and is open to all ages. It is suitable for those over 55 and is dementia friendly.

The event is free as it is funded by Steeping into Nature through the Big Lottery Fund.
