It was the end of an era at a recent art society agm when the chairman of four years stood down.

Bridport Art Society chairman Clive Baynes left the post with Charles Hallsworth taking over the role.

In his chairman’s report, Mr Baynes reported that membership continued to grow and the outlook for the society was bright. He thanked the committee for their hard work in making the society a success.

During the AGM, local artist Chris Neaves judged entries for this year’s Jurassic Coast-themed Marlowe Prize’. This is a subject matter close to Mr Neaves’ heart as he has been inspired by the same coastline for the last 10 years.

He liked the bold approach that was taken by Ruta Skrinskiene in her work Jurassic Coast ’Blue’. Chris also complimented the society on the variety of approach taken to the subject, naming Eileen Dearden as second place and Ros Hipkiss, third. More work by society members will be on display at their Easter exhibition at The Salt House, West Bay from tomorrow to April 23. The exhibition will be open from 10am to 5pm, Friday to Monday and from 10am to 2pm on April 23.

The next meeting will be held in Bridport Town Hall on April 25 at 7.30pm when artist, Ray Balkwill, will be giving a presentation entitled ‘Painting en plein air’.
