FOLLOWING the success of last year’s town carnival, members are once again looking for deserving charities to benefit and help at this year’s event.

The Bridport Carnival Committee is accepting nominations for charities that would like to lend a helping hand in the annual event in August in return for a donation.

A spokesperson for the committee said: “The charities that joined in the fun last year expressed many thanks for the donations they received and enjoyed partaking in the preparation of all the various events, as well as selling tickets for the grand raffle, the procession and torchlight procession.”

Bridport Carnival Committee has a whole host of new members for this year’s event, working to make the procession bigger and better than ever, encouraging businesses and various community groups to get involved.

Events will take place throughout the week leading up to the procession through the town on Saturday, August 17. this will include a quiz at The Ropemakers pub in West Street on the Tuesday, a bingo night on the Wednesday and darts on the Friday.

Following the procession of floats through the town, there will be live music in South Street.

Everyone is also encouraged to join in the annual spectacle that is the torchlight procession from Bucky Doo Square in Bridport, down South Street to West Bay on Sunday, August 18.

Residents and visitors carry burning torches to West Bay, which are placed on a bonfire before a display of fireworks above the sea. There will also be live music, food and drinks.

If you feel you can contribute to this year’s carnival, please write stating your charity, how much help you can give and how any donation will benefit your members or the community.
