MORE than £640 has been raised for the town's community and youth centre.

A pizza fundraiser was held at the Watch House in West Bay on Sunday evening and a total of £645 was raised from the sale of 60 pizzas and a 'guess the number of pebbles in the jar' competition.

The correct guess of 60 was made by Kevin Moys, but predictions, collected by regular youth club attendees Tiggy and Alani, varied from 40 to more than 200.

A visitor to West Bay, 14-year-old Theo Tekindag, entered the spirit of the competition and said: "It was good fun, made me wish I lived in Bridport as I could see all the young

The event attracted many local families that wanted to support the centre, as well as several people who had read it in The News and decided to enjoy a pizza while doing a good deed at the same time.

Vanessa Mayer, a visitor from High Wycombe, said: "What a wonderful evening, lovely food and great atmosphere and all for a worthy cause."

Many people stayed long after they had finished their pizzas to catch up with friends and relax.

Bridport mayor Cllr Barry Irvine came to show his support of the centre and Ros Kayes, chairman of Bridport Youth and Community Centre trustees, helped by taking orders and telling people about the new Crowdfunding campaign to bring more facilities to the centre.

She said: "We are very grateful to Steve Attrill for his generosity, and to Tom Robinson, the manager, and all the staff for staying late and making it all such a success."
