You should let the fire service know if you're planning a controlled burn.
That's the message being reiterated today after firefighters were called to a fire on a hillside between Freshwater Holiday Park and the nearby golf course in Bridport.
A couple walking by the cliffs saw the fire at about 12.30pm and called the emergency services.
Firefighters from Bridport Fire Station attended and found multiple, smouldering burn sights along the hillside. Four firefighters made their way up the hill and used beaters to extinguish the hotspots. The officer in charge made enquires and found these to be controlled burns. Advice was given and crews returned to station.
If you’re planning on having a fire, call the fire service control room on 0306 799 0019.
They’ll ask you a few questions and this could prevent firefighters from being called out unnecessarily.
