A WEST Dorset town has been named one of the UK's top destinations this Easter.

Lyme Regis has been listed in the top 10 trending Airbnb destinations for Brits over the upcoming Bank Holiday.

Bookings are said to be up by more than 100 per cent compared to the Easter break last year.

Lyme has been placed 10th in the list, and is joined by Weymouth in third place and Bournemouth in seventh place.

Cllr Jeff Scowen said it was 'fantastic' news but no surprise as Lyme 'ticks all the boxes.'

He said: "It was obvious really; it's the best place on the planet, it really is that good. It's getting more and more popular and people are starting to wake up to that - especially with [Ammonite] being made."

Asked what makes Lyme so special, he said: "It's on the sea, it has beautiful buildings and the people here are wonderful. It ticks all the boxes."

Visitors flocking to the town this weekend are in for a treat, with temperatures expected to soar.

Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said Good Friday will be 'pleasant', rising to 20C in areas on Saturday and Sunday - making it warmer than Palma in Majorca which will see heavy rain on Saturday and highs of 18C.

If that wasn't impressive enough, Lyme also secured a place in the Sunday Times list of best places to live in the south west.

It is the first time the resort has made the list.

Topsham, near Exeter, took the top spot.

The report noted that a starter home in Lyme Regis will cost buyers £315,101, while a mid-market home is around £286,790 and a top-of-the-range home will set you back £587,477.
