An elderly man and his son trapped in a broken down lift had to be freed by the fire service.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident happened at Sidney Gale House at Flood Lane, Bridport.

"We sent out two fire engines to assist two people stuck in a lift - one of whom was an elderly man who lived in the building.

"Crews quickly got to work manually lowering the lift down to the ground floor and released the father and son, who other than feeling a little claustrophobic were fit and well.

"The lift was then cordoned off until an engineer could inspect and repair the fault.

"Officers had finished at around 5pm".
