ALL residents and visitors will now be able to safely access a charity shop in the town, thanks to a tailor-made solution.

The YMCA charity shop in West Street, Bridport, had a problem providing safe access for residents in wheelchairs, with prams or on strollers as there was a slight step up.

Shop manager Louise Barron knew a ramp would be helpful, but due to the shop being on a hill, there is around a one-inch slope between the left and right sides of the entrance.

However, Colin Green, a volunteer for Remap Dorchester, was able to make a bespoke ramp for the shop.

As a retired engineer, he designed and made a ramp that took in account the one-inch difference, which was provided free of charge.

Remap Dorchester is a branch of Remap, a national charity that provides custom-made equipment for disabled people.

Volunteers provide practical solutions to everyday challenges encountered by disabled people and cover the area between Bridport and Swanage.

It does not charge for this service, but donations are welcome.
