West Dorset has it all going on this weekend, from live music, films and lazy Sunday music sessions to vegan markets, art exhibitions and duck races.

We've compiled a list of what's happening across Bridport, Lyme Regis and Beaminster to make planning your weekend a lot easier.

FRIDAY, APRIL 12

  • Award-winning journalist and author, Misha Glenny, will give a talk on his book ‘McMafia’, lifting the lid on global organised crime and its corrupt political networks. The talk takes place at Bridport Arts Centre from 7.30pm and tickets are available from www.bridport-arts.com
  • Bohemian Rhapsody, the story of legendary rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury, will be shown at Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £6 in advance from www.marinetheatre.com or £7.50 on the door.
  • Live music from the Semantics starts at The Ropemakers from 915pm. The Semantics is a next generation, one-man band. Using a loop-station and a host of instruments, he creates live, multi-instrumental spoken word with a belly full of rhythm, but he is not your stereotypical rapper.
  • The Aninika Skoogh Trio will be at Rise in West Bay from 9pm bringing some jazz, latin, blues and soulful songs.
  • At Beach and Barnicott, Ethereal will be taking the stage, playing a selection of ambient pop and folk music from 9pm.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13

  • Festival favourites Lady Winwood’s Maggot will take the stage at The Ropemakers from 9.15pm. Sometimes an angel choir, sometimes a chainsaw screaming through a lonely forest, Lady Winwood’s Maggot has been storming the south for many years with their unique style of Death Western. Fusing traditional American and Irish music with self-written songs and presenting them with an old-school punk attitude. Banjo, mandolin and acoustic guitar are backed with thunderous drums and bass.
  • Record Store Day is taking place at Bridport Music on South Street from 8am to 5pm. Here you will find exclusive vinyl releases, and the opportunity to enjoy some birthday cake and fizz from 4pm as the shop celebrates 45 years.
  • Bridport Vegan Market returns to the town hall from 10am to 2.30pm. There will be a selection of food, gifts, cosmetics and beauty products. Entry is free.
  • Broadwindsor and District Horticultural Society will be hosting a coffee morning at Comrades Hall from 10.30am to 12noon. Admission in £1 and there will also be a raffle and plants for sale.
  • Art exhibition, ‘6 Bridport Artists’ starts today at Eype Centre for the Arts. Meet some of the artists whose studios were destroyed in a fire at St Michael’s Trading Estate last year and see some of the work they have produced since. Open from 10.30am to 4.30pm until April 28.
  • Bruce Upton will be giving a talk on Bridport and the Quakers, entitled ‘A fine meeting there is there’, at Loders Village Hall from 2pm. It costs £1 for members of the West Dorset Group of The Somerset and Dorset Family History Society or £3 for visitors.
  • The Rotary Club of Lyme Regis will be holding a ‘know your blood pressure day’ at Fortnam, Smith and Banwell estate agents. Get your blood pressure monitored by a trained nurse.
  • A quiz in aid of Bridport Millennium Green is taking place at The British Legion Hall in Victoria Grove from 7.30pm. teams should be between four and six people, or just come along and make up a team. It costs £6 for non-members or £5.50 for members and includes a light supper.
  • Oasis tribute band, ‘Noasis’, will be performing at the Electric Palace from 8pm. Expect a real Oasis experience with amazing energy and enjoy the many hits of Oasis. Tickets cost £13 in advance from Bridport TIC or £15 on the door.
  • Bee Gees Fever will entertain an audience at Bridport Arts Centre, giving a two-hour show with something for everyone from every era of the Bee Gees glittering career. The band will take to the stage from 7.30pm and tickets are available from www.bridport-arts.com

SUNDAY, APRIL 14

  • The Friends of Burton School will host their annual duck race at Burton Bradstock Playing Fields. There will be traditional stalls, games, cream teas, food, drink and prizes from 1pm with the duck race starting at 2pm.
  • Charity ride for Action on Addiction will take place from Weymouth to Exmouth, stopping in West Bay at around 10.40am. Action on Addiction works with people affected by drug and alcohol addiction.   • Mapperton House and Garden’s annual spring plant fair takes place from 10am to 4pm in the gardens near Beaminster. There will be more than 30 stalls selling plants, flowers, herbs and lots more. Admission costs £3, or £10 with a guided tour of the house.
  • Love Simon (12A) will be shown at Bridport Arts Centre from 2pm. A young coming-of-age tale about a teenage boy, Simon Spier, who goes through a different kind of Romeo and Juliet story. Simon has a love connection with a boy, Blue, by email, but the only problem is that Simon has no idea who he is talking to. Simon must discover who that boy is as he tries to find himself too.   • My Generation (12) about the cultural revolution that occurred in 1960s England will be shown at Bridport Arts Centre from 7.30pm, starring David Bailey, Michael Caine and Joan Collins. Tickets are available from www.bridport-arts.com
  • A slower, more sensitive moods comes over The Ropemakers from 4pm when the pub welcomes Garry ‘The Slide Guy’ Smith. Using his own songs and instrumentals, as well as carefully selected covers, he strives to take slide guitar out of the ‘blues ghetto’.
  • Cellist Matt Benjamin and guitarist Jack Harrison will be hosting the Sunday Session at the Marine Theatre from 3pm.
