TWO mums have raised more than £2,000 for women’s cancer charities through a curry and quiz evening.

Bridport mum Abbi Irving-Bell and Lucinda Eames from Chard are fundraising before they cycle from London to Paris in aid of Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

They will be joining more than 100 other cyclists for the three-day 250-mile challenge in September this year for the Woman V Cancer London to Paris bike ride.

It will take riders through the English countryside and northern France before finishing at the Champs-Elysees.

They hope to raise more than £4,000 for the three charities and the curry night, attended by more than 100 people, managed to raise £2,160 – more than half their target amount.

Lucinda said: “It was a great atmosphere on the night, and we are overwhelmed by all the support we have received.”

Last year, the friends successfully completed a 100km cycle ride through London at night, which was inspired by a friend who had recovered from cervical cancer.

Abbi said: “We wanted to push ourselves this year and set ourselves another challenge to raise money for such a worthy cause.”

The pair would also like to thank all the businesses that donated raffle prizes and ingredients to make the curries.
