A WEST Dorset woman is running her third and final marathon at the age of 53 in an effort to raise as money as possible for a charity she is very passionate about.
Alison Denslow, who lives in Chideock and works in West Bay, is taking part in the Brathay Marathon ‘Lap of Lake Windermere’ in the Lake District on Sunday, May 19.
This will be the third marathon she has undertaken, previously taking part in the London and Brighton marathons, and she has chosen to run it on behalf of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.
Alison said: “They provide such a wonderful calming environment for the terminally ill. It is a place that is so dignified to the patients and their relatives in their final moments.
“Raising money for the Joseph Weld Hospice puts all my aches and personal pains into insignificance and this is what drives me on to train through the rain and bitterly cold days.
“Now in my 50s, it is much harder to motivate myself, but I get out there, pounding the streets of Bridport and the beautiful countryside we live in. Motivating me is the cause that I am doing it for, Weldmar.
“My aim is to just run from start to finish, no matter how slow or how long it takes.
“Please, please try and help. I know everyone is feeling the pinch at present but every £1 is so well spent within this charity.”
