A MUSICAL fundraiser set up by a community stalwart who died last year will be returning.

Bridport’s MusicAthon, a day of music and singing, was set up by Jo O’Farrell 10 years ago.

Organisers Pat Crawford and Vince O’Farrell have decided to continue to run the event after Jo sadly died last year.

The format of the MusicAthon will remain unchanged from previous years, with performers being sponsored to take part in the event.

Singers, bands and musicians will be given a 15-minute slot to perform their choice of music and songs to a public audience.

The MusicAthon celebrated 10 years in 2018 and raised more than £2,000 for it chosen charities – The Richard Ely Trust for Young Musicians and Bridport Youth and Community Centre Trust.

The Richard Ely Trust for Young Musicians will again benefit from the event this year, along with Dorset County Hospital’s Chemotherapy Unit Appeal.

The hospital’s appeal is supporting improvements to the existing chemotherapy suite, which will be reconfigured with the department expanding into the space vacated by the former outpatients area, giving family members space to sit with patients receiving chemotherapy. The Richard Ely Trust provides grants to young musicians to allow them to pay for tuition and instruments.

This year’s MusicAthon will take place at Bridport United Church on Saturday, June 8.
