THE Team at Bridport Youth Club is appealing for volunteers to help with a new junior session.

Thanks to funding from Magna Housing, Bridport Youth Club is planning to open a new Junior Youth Club to run alongside its existing Wednesday and Friday night clubs.

The new club, which will open on a Saturday morning between 10am and 12noon, will be for eight to 11-year-olds. The existing clubs, which now have in excess of 100 members, are for 11 to 18-year-olds.

However, this project can only go ahead if new people can be found to join the existing team of youth workers.

Heather Marston, the centre’s youth development worker said: “We are looking for people who feel able to help run or volunteer at this new club.

“The job is very rewarding and nationally recognised training will be provided.

“It will be very sad if we are unable to make use of Magna’s generous support.”

Kelvin Clayton, trustee of Bridport Youth & Community Centre with responsibility for youth clubs, added: “This Saturday club is a much needed new enterprise for the younger members of our community. It will facilitate a safe place for recreation, socialisation and general fun, and will open up affordable out of school activities for primary aged children.

“Engaging young people constructively at this early age can only have long term benefits for the community.”

The youth club introduced a new format in September last year and provides a range of activities such as an indoor skate park and zubaball, a bubble football game.

The Wednesday night club is for children in school years five to eight and the Friday night club is for students above year eight, taking place from 7pm to 9pm.
