FRIDAY, MARCH 22

  • Netherbury Drama Group presents ‘Looking for Love’, a farcical comedy by Raymond Hopkins by arrangement with Pinsley Plays. It contains adult humour. Tickets cost £8 and are available at www.netherburydramagroup.co.uk.
  • Bridport Green Fortnight’s finale will take place from 7pm at Bridport Town Hall. It will be an evening of poetry and songs with songs from Gail McGarva and Penny Dunscombe and poetry from stand-up poet Rob Casey. Tickets cost £5 and for more information visit www.transitiontownbridport.co.uk
  • Green Book (12A) is being shown at Bridport Electric Palace at 7.30pm. tickets cost £5 and are available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre and at www.electricpalace.org.uk. Set in 1962, the film follows Italian-American Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), who is hired to chauffeur African-American pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) on a concert tour through the Deep South. Don is aware of the troubles that he might face in different locations due to the colour of his skin and requires someone to act as both staff and protector. Tony isn’t an obvious choice as his views on race are problematic to say the least but he carries the required muscle and the unlikely pair embark on a road trip that’s bound to change both of their lives.
  • Nike Wyke and Becki Driscoll bring their Beautiful Spaces tour to the Chapel in the Garden in East Street at 7.30pm. The joyful combination of English fiddle partnership Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll welcomes you into their family from the first note. This is a masterclass in the art and mystery of connection; two fiddles and two voices working in confidence and synergy creating music infused with England’s shared stories, songs & Melodies. SATURDAY, MARCH 23

  • Members of the West Dorset Community Orchestra will be holding a coffee morning at Bridport United Church Hall from 10am to 12noon. There will be cakes, books, bric-a-brac, a raffle and charity stalls.
  • The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will be shown at Bridport Electric Palace from 11am. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are. Tickets cost £4.50 from Bridport Tourist Information Centre.
  • Andrew Fynn will be giving a talk on ‘The Future of the Human Psyche’ at Bridport LSi from 1pm in the Courtyard. It will be a presentation with a question and answer session about the relationship between the conscious, the sub-conscious and the semi-conscious. The event is free, but donations are welcome.
  • Beautiful Boy (15) will be shown at the Electric Palace from 7.30pm. Steve Carell is David Sheff, a successful journalist and proud father; to teenage son Nic (Timothee Chalamet) from his first marriage and two daughters from his second to artist Karen (Maura Tierney). A relaxed, affectionate and communicative dad, he isn’t alarmed when Nic begins experimenting with marijuana; but then his son’s initially casual interest in drugs expands into an urgent addiction to crystal meth. As Nic transforms from his father’s beloved beautiful boy into an unhappy and chaotic addict, their relationship is repeatedly challenged to its core. Based on a true story, Beautiful Boy is adapted from two separate memoirs by both David and Nic Sheff about the experience. SUNDAY, MARCH 24

  • A workshop in voice improvisation circle singing is being held by John and Janey Walter at St Mary’s Church House in South Street from 10.30am to 1pm. The structures of circle singing create a safe place where you can find harmony, melody and rhythm. John and Janey Walter have run music and singing groups together for over 30 years.   • Chalk’s Walk and Talk starts today from 11am looking at the history of Colmers Hill. Doug Chalk has extensive knowledge of Colmer’s Hill. He will walk with you at your pace on a visit to the top of the iconic hill. The walk is a circular one taking around 2 hours with Doug giving an informative but informal talk along the way about the area. Dogs must be on a lead.
