AN adult day care centre in Bridport has received a boost of £300 thanks to the generosity of the leisure centre users and a Bridport business.

Bridport Leisure Centre held a raffle in the run-up to Christmas as the team at the centre wanted to raise money for a local cause.

Through raffle ticket sales, £150 was raised for Bridport Connect, which was matched by Heavers of Bridport.

Bridport Connect is owned by Tricuro - a provider of health and social care services - and offers a range of services, such as cooking, music and movement, gardening, games, arts and crafts and relaxation.

William Thrower, manager of Bridport Leisure Centre, said: “Bridport Connect have visited the centre for a number of years, having a weekly fitness session with one of our qualified fitness instructors.

“Two of the service users also volunteer here on a weekly basis and are very much part of the team here at Bridport Leisure Centre.

“The centre is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity – operated by the Bridport and West Dorset Sports Trust – which offers a hub for the local community and is here to provide an all-inclusive service to the residents of Bridport and the surrounding areas.

“This year, we wanted to – with the help of our valued customers – raise some money for a local group to put towards various activities and equipment. The money raised has been ring-fenced for the benefit of the Bridport group.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of our customers and we must also thank Luke and Ross at Heavers of Bridport, who upon hearing about our aspirations, agreed to match the amount that the centre raised, which totalled £150.”
