It does appear to me that some bureaucracy is at play with the future of Bridport hospital and the requirement of patients. I believe there are two 'trusts' involved, namely Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust in providing services.

Both appear to want to withdraw services and move them to Dorchester and Blandford, which obviously means fewer patients will visit Bridport hospital, thereby in the longer term, bit by bit, reducing the need for it. These two trust boards do not appear to have consulted any local people on what these moves mean. How are the patients from this part of rural Dorset going to travel these long distances to and from the new venues for appointments by public transport which, to say the least, is not the best or most reliable and taxis will cost a fortune which some people could simply not afford.

Whilst we have a National Health Service, which generally serves patients well when genuinely needed, it appears to being taken over by bodies which don't appear to serve the interests of patients. There needs to be much better and more widely-publicised consultations on any future actions, before they are carried out, so that everyone fully understands the implications of such action. This present decision needs to be reversed now and Bridport Hospital revitalised to serve a deserving rural community properly.
