PEOPLE in Bridport are demanding action against climate change during a day of events today.

Bridport Rebellion Day, led by members of Extinction Rebellion Bridport, gathered at Bucky Doo Square at 11am and are continuing with a flash mob choir, speakers and a samba band procession.

Some of the roads near Bucky Doo Square were blocked for short intervals by peaceful protest.

Carolyn Emmett, of Extinction Rebellion Bridport, said: “We must act now to raise awareness and call on the government to take action.

“For 30 years, scientists have been telling us that climate change and loss of biodiversity will kill us. During this time, carbon emissions have been allowed to increase by 60 per cent and are still going up.

“We have a short time to make the changes that will help us survive this emergency situation.

“We are not prepared to stand by and allow the destruction of the living world. Come and join us – be part of the change.”

Extinction Rebellion is an international environmental movement that aims to drive radical change against climate change.

Bridport Rebellion Day will be followed by further events and talks during Bridport Green Fortnight, which takes place between March 9 and 24.
