THE new headteacher for The Woodroffe School has said he will strive for ‘excellence everyday’ when he takes on the post later this year.

Daniel Watts will join the Lyme Regis secondary school in September, taking over from Richard Steward.

In a letter to parents, Mary Kahn, chair of governors, said: “We believe he will bring an energy and experience which will benefit students, staff and the whole school community, building on the success already in place.

“Mr Watts is joining us from The Queen Elizabeth Academy, Atherstone, where he has been the principal for the past four years.

“His specialisms include geography and physical education and he holds a BA (HONS) from Exeter University.

“Mr Watts will be relocating to the area with his wife and two daughters and we look forward to welcoming them all to the school community.

“The appointment of a new headteacher is an exciting and challenging time. I would like to thank all the parents and carers who already support the school so much in many ways and I know this support will be much appreciated in the next academic year with this new appointment.”

Mr Watts said he was ‘extremely excited by the challenge ahead’ and was ‘proud’ to be joining the school.

“I believe that my skills and experience to date will support the school in the drive for continual improvement and retained excellence,” he added.

“It is important that we strive for ‘excellence everyday’ and ensure that we provide the pupils entrusted into our care, with the best that education has to offer.

“It is clear that The Woodroffe School is a special place and is integral to the community it serves.

“The pupils are excellent and the teaching staff both dedicated and passionate about making a difference to the lives of each and every pupil at the school.

“My family and I have a busy time ahead as we prepare to move to Dorset and are very much looking forward to becoming part of the community.”
