THE future of Arts at Lyme Regis Town Mill has been put into question as the Town Mill Arts (TMA) company has been closed.

The announcement was made on the TMA website and that the ‘future direction of arts at the mill is not fixed’.

The statement said: “As our former members will already be aware, the Town Mill Trust decided to close TMA at the end of February, so the Printmakers exhibition was our last.

“The TMA team has formed a Community Interest Company (CIC) and will be making a bid to run the galleries from April 1. We understand that the trust may also be exploring other ways to fulfil its arts objective if our bid is unsuccessful.

“Until the trust has made a decision, the future direction of arts at the mill is not fixed.

“We are hoping to be able to present the schedule of exhibitions we had already planned for 2019.”

TMA was a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Town Mill Trust based in the Town Mill Galleries at Lyme Regis Town Mill.

It was run by and for local artists and craftsmen and Town Mill Arts ran both the Courtyard Gallery and the Malthouse Gallery.

The News has approached TMA for further comment and information but has not yet had a response.
