At 6.54pm last night (March 3), the Lyme Regis Coastguard was tasked to investigate a report of flashing lights about 1.5km east of Charmouth.
A concerned member of the public had phoned 999 on her way home from visiting the area. She was concerned that the flashing lights might mean someone was in difficulty as the area was experiencing very high winds due to Storm Freya.
After initial assessment, three coastguard officers accessed the beach and located the lights which belonged to two people fossiling. They were safe and well and were asked to leave the beach for their own safety.
The beach was then checked again to make sure there were no further lights.
