THE temporary home for air bottles used by divers in West Bay has been granted temporary permission to remain on the quayside for another three years.

West Dorset District Council’s planning committee met on Thursday, February 14 to discuss the renewal of a temporary planning application by West Bay’s harbour master, James Radcliffe.

It is currently situated quayside, on The Mound by the harbour master’s office, within a steel shipping container and houses a compressor and equipment for recharging air bottles.

This temporary home was first given temporary planning permission for three years in September 2015.

A more permanent home by now but one has not been found due to a lack of funds.

Councillors agreed to extend the temporary planning application for another three years in the hope that funding becomes available for a permanent home.

Cllr Dominic Elliot said the office was important for harbour users. He said “As a diver back in the day I have used this facility.

“It’s a remarkable facility and brings divers from all over the country.”

Cllr Thomas Bartlett said: “It has been there and it has not been a problem so I am recommending for approval.”

Cllr Ian Gardner said: “The building provides a significant contribution and service to the harbour.”
