A WOMAN who was seriously injured after her car veered off the road and rolled several times down a hill has thanked those who saved her life.

Trish Barrington was driving home to Bridport after visiting a friend in Yeovil when she came off the road near Walditch.

A passer-by called the emergency services and tried to comfort her while they waited for help to arrive.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance and fire service, attended and had a difficult task ahead of them after the car rolled numerous times down the hill before coming to a stop in a ‘precarious’ position.

Trish, aged in her 70s, was trapped in the vehicle and crews worked to stabilise the car with a winch so it did not move any further.

Trish says she had a lucky escape and has now thanked those who came to her aid.

She says that she owes a debt of gratitude to everyone who came to her aid including passers-by and the emergency services who worked in difficult conditions to rescue her from the wreckage.

“It was quite scary but a lot of it is a blur,” said Trish.

“I can remember seeing the helicopter and then realising it was for me.

“A man came to help and he made sure I was okay until the emergency services arrived- I want to say a big ‘thank you’ to him.

“They managed to get me out and took me hospital where I was looked after very well.

Thank you to all the emergency personnel involved, including the staff at Dorset County Hospital. They were wonderful.”

Trish, who trains horses, is now resting at home and is being looked after by partner, Ian.

“It will be a few weeks before I am walking around properly,” said Trish.

“Everybody in the village has been wonderful and I’ve had so many cards and well wishes – even from those I don’t know. I want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for their support.

“Ian has been wonderful,” said Trish.

“He keeps telling me off for trying to walk around and he’s been doing all the house work.

“But I’m dying to get back out to the horses.”
