The A35 was partially blocked after a car hit a deer near Bere Regis.
The incident is reported to have occurred in the westbound carriage of the A35 just before the Bere Regis roundabout (junction with Poole Hill) at 5.20pm.
The incident caused traffic to build up and vehicles were queueing between Mordon Park Corner and Bere Regis.
The road remained blocked for more than an hour and a half while police waited for the vehicle to be recovered.
The road was cleared just before 7pm.
