BEAMINSTER Town Council has pledged £3,000 to the town’s museum extension.
Planning permission was granted for a two-storey extension to Beaminster Museum last year, which will enable the team to have more space for storage and displays.
The request for a grant towards the project was discussed at a town council meeting last month.
Town clerk Christine Bright said: “They have now got planning permission for the extension and they are now starting to apply for funding.
“They have been awarded a grant from West Dorset District Council of £15,000 and are now seeking Lottery funding and grants from various trusts.
“They are asking whether the town council can provide them with a grant towards the project.”
Cllr Robin Cheeseman suggested “pledging so much” as he thought the project was “a good one”.
It was agreed to pledge £3,000 from next year’s budget for when the project gets started.
