West Dorset woke up to snow this morning.

Heavy snow fell overnight and appeares to have settled.

See our gallery here.

Conditions were hazardous first thing this morning, with some rural communities cut off, and there were reports of people struggling to pass through the tunnel at Beaminster

Travel Dorset has reported that, for the time being, normal driving conditions have returned to the A35 between Shipton Road (Walditch) and Winterbourne Abbas, as well as on the B3157 coast road between Bridport and Portesham.

But the Met Office has issued another yellow warning for snow and ice in Dorset for 1pm today (Friday) until 11am tomorrow.

Dorset County Council's highways team were out in force last night, gritting major roads, however Travel Dorset has warned today that some roads were not included in their gritting network.

However, they have cleared their priority network of roads and community links and are starting to clear more minor roads.

The team have had 25 gritting vehicles and 100 staff on standby for continuous runs since yesterday. Vehicles have also be fitted with ploughs for snow clearance.

Some west Dorset schools closed early yesterday and most are closed today. A full list can be found here

Dorset County Council has cancelled all travel services. First's X51 bus will operate between Bridport and Dorchester, though it is unable to serve Axminster. The X53 is operating between Bridport and Weymouth.

Motorists shoud take extra care on the roads, with delays likely, and commuters can expect cancellations to rail and bus services.

Other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

It is predicted that we could see between 1-2cm of snow in low levels and up to 10cm in the hills and high ground.
