Work to repair the building partially destroyed in the attempted cashpoint raid in Beaminster last August are not likely to start soon.

The building on the Fleet Street corner in The Square has been surrounded by scaffolding following the incident, which has resulted in the road being diverted onto the car parking spaces in The Square.

Cllr Rebecca Knox, county councillor for Beaminster, posted an update on the situation on social media.

She said: “The building is a Grade II* building and it is taking longer to agree a plan for reconstruction.

“I am assured that all is being done that can be but plans for the build are likely to mean no construction work until March 1.

“Historic England and other planning authorities need to be satisfied with the plans to restore the building.

“The highway changes can be extended, challenge to timing is constructive and I have asked for any road defects to be addressed – there are a few at the moment.

“Businesses affected are in contact with the business rate officers and there is a proactive social media campaign, which is being effective in showing that its business as usual and indeed our local businesses have some fantastic offers and attractions for all, in town and to those in our local village communities and visitors.

“As always, any questions, please email me and I will endeavour to address them to the appropriate place.

“Shop and use local services, it's great so many do.”
