HEALTH and Local Food for Families (HALFF) is calling on people in and around Axminster to tell them more about what they eat.

The charity is conducting a survey in order to learn more about what people think about the food they eat, the environment and how it affects their health.

HALFF, which wants to improve people’s health and wellbeing by changing the way they eat and develop life skills, will to use this information to plan services for all groups of the community.

HALFF is a registered charity set up to help people, especially those who are vulnerable, disadvantaged and isolated to cook delicious healthy food for themselves and their families.

The sessions help people to avoid some of the problems linked with being overweight or obese.

The charity also works with older people who may already be suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes of heart disease to help them to learn to cook and eat appropriately.

For more information and to fill out the survey, visit www.halff.org.uk.

The next session run by HALFF in Axminster will be ‘Make and Munch’ on January 29 in the Masonic Hall from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

This project helps to address the issues facing parents and carers of young children and to increase confidence in cooking for others, improve knowledge of food, nutrition, preparation and planning and support those who may be isolated as a result of their caring responsibilities.

HALFF were also recently awarded £4,000 from Tesco in Axminster, which will go towards their Cooking for One sessions in Axminster.

The funds were raised through the store’s Bags of Help scheme, in which customers vote to support a local worthy cause.

Money generated through the sale of carrier bags goes into the grant scheme, with grants of £1,000, £2,000 and £4,000 being awarded to three local projects.
