The next meeting of the West Dorset Western Area Transport Action Group (WATAG) will be taking place tomorrow (Thursday) at the W.I. Hall, North Street, Bridport at 6.30 pm (Wykes Court Public Car park is nearby and is free of charge after 6pm).

It will start with the group's Annual General Meeting, when they review the past year as well as looking forward to the coming one.

Philip Sankey, WATAG Chairman, said: “WATAG is grateful to a dedicated committee for their hard work, but we are always looking for others to join us as we face issues that may arise during 2019.

“We also seek volunteers for the chairman’s and secretary’s positions, as the present incumbents are stepping down.”

Following the AGM, the group hope to have reports from the major bus and rail operators in our area, and have asked that a representative from Dorset Travel attends to give an update on the county council’s plans for public transport in general and the Bridport - Yeovil corridor in particular.

WATAG are pleased to learn that First Wessex is offering to look sympathetically at any claims for compensation by anyone affected by the no. 6 service (Bridport -Beaminster/ Yeovil) not operating, as advertised, on New Year’s Eve.

There will, as usual, be a ‘democratic moment’ for anyone to raise issues about their local bus and rail services.

Anyone and everyone with an interest in public transport is encouraged to attend.

WATAG is a voluntary group with an interest in public transport, particularly in west Dorset.

Agendas and minutes of WATAG’s meetings, as well as transport news, can be found on their website at watag.org.uk.
