FRIEND of Looking Back Alvin Hopper really enjoyed our articles on HMS Dorsetshire after posters publicising fundraising events for a replacement for the vessel were recently found behind a wall in the Wyke Smugglers.

Alvin got in touch again to let us know that a painting of the sinking of HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Cornwall was in Dorset County Museum in Dorchester.

We also pointed out to readers that a book exists on HMS Dorsetshire and has been written by Bert Gollop and John Cannon.

Alvin said: "In Dorset Year Book 1945, which can be found in the reference section of Weymouth Library, there is a section by the captain of HMS Dorsetshire, Captain Augustus Agar V.C,R.N. later to become Commodore Agar V.C.,R.N.

He won his Victoria Cross during the British Intervention during the war in Russia and defended the Czarist cause, Czar Nicolas III being related to King George V.

Thanks to Alvin for letting us know of the above.
