IF you’ve got pets then you definitely must have wondered what they get up to when you’re not there.

This video reveals all and includes a very naughty Labrador – but there’s a serious message too as it has been shared to encourage pet owners to make sure they turn off all wall sockets before they leave the house.

The video was created by Electrical Safety First for their Pets Home Alone campaign and was shared on Twitter by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The video begins with the dog watching his owner leave from the window, and then becoming increasingly naughty as he jumps on the table to lick a coffee cup and then shred a book that has been left within his reach. But there’s a shocking moment towards the end when a plug sends out sparks, almost catching fire and scaring both cat and dog. Luckily the animals were not hurt, but the video has been shared to highlight the importance of electrical safety.

Electrical Safety First has also shared this advice for pet owners:

• Make sure that plug sockets are not overloaded – if too many appliances draw power from one socket, it can overheat and catch fire.

• Never leave washing machines or dishwashers running when you are out of the house or asleep.

• Don’t plug a mobile phone in to charge and then forget about it.

• Check that plugs, sockets, lights and cables are not damaged or displaying burn marks.

• Don’t leave a portable heater unattended when excitable pets are running around the house!

• Don’t leave cables trailing – as well as being a trip hazard, they might be too good to resist for a pet looking for something to chew on.

• Don’t store anything that could easily catch fire on top of the microwave or near your fusebox or electricity meter.
