BETRAYAL is in the air as we learn our own Chancellor is working behind the scenes to rule out the no-deal option.

This would single-handedly weaken the Prime Minister’s negotiating hand when she returns to the EU to seek further concessions.

And, regrettably, and shamefully, the Chancellor is not alone.

Others on our side of the House are resorting to all kinds of shenanigans to confuse, undermine and ultimately to stop Brexit.

No wonder a recent poll shows that this generation of politicians are simply not up to the job.

We are in this mess for one simple reason: the majority of MPs in the House do not want to leave the EU.

It seems that the British people have more confidence in their country than their politicians.

The Government survived a No Confidence vote on Wednesday night – just.

Without the support of the DUP, we’d now be facing a general election.

My support, and that of many of my colleagues, was given on the basis we were promised that the no-deal option would not be taken off the table.

I have already apologised for the chaos that Brexit deliberations have foisted on the country.

We politicians are to blame and there is no escaping that fact.

Meanwhile, the EU is revelling in the Westminster disarray.

Their disdain for our democratic choice back in June 2016 is clear.

Where now?

The Prime Minister is now consulting with all Parties, although what good that will do is beyond me.

Mrs May made the mistake of trying to please all sides, when a clear instruction was given and should have been implemented with vigour and vision.

Instead, she capitulated at every stage.

Our only option now is to leave on 29 March.

It’s that or the potential downfall of democracy in this country.
