RESIDENTS in Beaminster are raising concerns of speeding in North Street, which they say has worsened in the last three years.

Christine Bright, Beaminster town clerk, read out correspondence from those living in the street, just off The Square, at a recent town council committee meeting.

The resident, who wrote on behalf of the group, stated that following the Tunnel Road closure in July 2012, the 20mph speed limit signs were moved to cover just 150 metres of North Street due to increased traffic flow and they were advised they would be put back further up the road when it was re-opened, but they have not.

They added that speeding is also made easier by the erection of bollards to prevent cars parking along the wall prior to the 20mph sign, which has widened the road and taken away parked cars that helped slow the traffic speed.

It was highlighted that the community speed watch team operating in the town wasn’t operating in North Street to help slow down drivers.

The council agreed that there were problems regarding speeding on the street but following numerous site visits with the county council and raising the issue with them, they have had nothing back.

They resolved that they would talk to the community speed watch team about covering North Street.
