LOCAL people campaigning for a people’s vote were out in force in Bridport last Saturday, following their visit to Lyme Regis earlier this month.

Activists and supporters from the People’s Vote took to Bucky Doo Square to talk to shoppers in order to demand a People’s Vote on the final Brexit deal and to find out the public’s views on Brexit, a no-deal and what it would mean for the country.

The group hailed the event, which was the last one before parliament voted on the government’s deal on Tuesday, and stated: “People don’t just have to accept a bad Brexit, they can demand that their voice is heard. The public needs to have the final say on this crucial decision because, in the end, only the people can really sort this out.”

Members of West Dorset for EU are campaigning across the area with the goal of keeping Britain in the EU and are against any Brexit deal that leaves people worse off.

Kay Wilcox, chairman of West Dorset for EU, said: “Many, many people who we spoke with on Saturday agree that where we are heading as a country is not what people voted for in 2016.

“We should have another say on whether we agree with the dismal deal that has been negotiated or our current membership of the EU.

“We have been urging residents to lobby their MP to get behind a people’s vote.”
