This week we've heard the troubling news that the future of Weymouth Carnival is seriously in doubt after the organisation that runs it has ceased trading.

The event was due to take place on August 20 and 21 but it's unclear at this stage whether anyone will take the event on and move it forward.

While we very much hope that this wonderful Weymouth tradition does continue, we've been taking a look back through some of our pictures of the carnival in days gone by. The event - in its modern form - is said to be around 60 years old, but it has roots long before that.
