AN afternoon of prayer is being organised at Weymouth Family Church in response to the division caused by Brexit.

Praying for the Nation will take place at Bethany Hall from 4pm to 5.30pm on Saturday, January 26.

The afternoon will concur with a national day of prayer being held at Wembley Arena on the same day.

A spokesman for Weymouth Family Church said: “We see and read the news media reports of division and arguments over Brexit. These arguments sometimes descend into personal attacks and insults. This is our opportunity to join with others across Weymouth and Portland, and indeed, across the nation, to pray and to express our unity in Christ. To show that there is a different way to behave.

“We will not be praying for Brexit or against Brexit. We know that amongst the church congregations across Weymouth and Portland there are the same differing opinions, just as there are in the nation as a whole. But we choose to unite in Christ. We choose to pray to Him in times of difficulty.

“Political arguments will not unite the nation. Only Christ can do that. That's what we'll be praying for. Please come and join us. The Refresh Church leaders across Weymouth and Portland have given their support to this. We are united in Christ. And prayer is powerful.”
