TO SHOW their support of centenary commemorations, a west Dorset school have been immersing themselves in life during the Great War.

Kimmeridge class, which consists of Year 3 and 4 pupils, from Parrett and Axe Primary School learnt about World War One.

Taking part in a special Kimmeridge Evacuee Day, the class swapped their usual red uniform for 1910s inspired costume as they learnt about evacuees and what it might have been like to be evacuated far from home during the war.

After completing a history fact finding mission during the morning, the children got stuck in completing a range of hands on practical activities such as cooking and knitting and before heading outside to do some gardening in the school allotment.

A spokesman for the school said: “The children had a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories about family members who were part of the war effort.”
