DISTRICT and county councillor, Daryl Turner, is calling on Lyme Regis Town Council to have the slippery tiles in Broad Street removed.

Cllr Turner said he was “amazed” at how many accidents there had been in relation to the tiles on the pavement outside the cinema and that Dorset County Council could not find any historical value for them.

In a post on social media, he said: “I have been looking at the issue of the tiled areas in Broad Street which have become very slippery when damp.

“After going back some time, it appears Lyme Regis Town Council did not want these replaced after Dorset County Council wished to remove them. This apparently was some time ago.

“Dorset County Council has recently looked if they have any historical connection, reason or value, but cannot find any.

“I believe these need to be removed and therefore have asked Lyme Regis Town Council to debate the issue and give me a formal resolution to replace them. I can then take this back to Dorchester and get it on a works programme.”

Cllr Turner has been discussing these issues, amongst others, with resident Adrian Robinson, who he thanked for his “constructive thoughts”.

He added: “There has been much discussion on social media about when these tiles were laid and various versions of conversations that took place between Lyme Regis Town Council and Dorset County Council in the past.

“In addition, I am quite amazed at the number of people who have had accidents related to them.

“The request has to the town council has been made, once they are content and have made a decision, and if that decision is to remove, I can move it forward.”
