The volunteer crew of Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat answered their fortieth emergency call of the year last week.
The team responded to reports of what appeared to be two drifting kayaks a mile and a half to the east of the town’s harbour on Wednesday, December 27.
The ‘kayaks’ turned out to be large black fenders - used by boats to protect them from berthing walls and structures - drifting out to sea, south of the Black Ven Cliff.
The fenders were recovered by the lifeboat crew and taken ashore at Lyme Regis harbour.
The lifeboat was launched at 11.30am and the crew returned to the harbour half an hour later.
