A former Weymouth Carnival Queen is getting ready for a charity skydive after her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Samantha McIntosh, 31, from Weymouth, has had a tough couple of months after finding out her mum Diane McIntosh, 49, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She said she felt ‘useless’ so decided to launch a GoFundMe page to raise sponsorship money for a charity skydive, which will take place on Mother’s Day, Sunday March 31.

Money raised will be donated to Breast Cancer UK.

Miss McIntosh explained: “I always said to my mum that we would complete a skydive together and I know she’s always wanted to do it. But sadly, she won’t be able to do it anymore, so I said ‘how about I raise some money for women suffering from breast cancer?’

“I want to be brave for her. I don’t know how to help, and I feel useless when I’m around her, it’s quite horrible.”

She said her mum cried when she told her and added: “She told me she’s really proud of me and we cried together. It was one of those very special mum and daughter moments.”

Last year, Ms McIntosh completed a charity abseil down the Jurassic Skyline in Weymouth, despite a fear of heights.

She says jumping out a plane will be her toughest challenge yet.

“My knees will be shaking when I’m up there, but I will do it, and I’ll feel proud when I get to the bottom.

“Nothing can prepare you for jumping out of a plane, but I’ve been staying fit by going for runs and staying on top of it” she said.

Ms McIntosh is hoping to take part in a number of challenges in 2019 after making it her goal to raise as much money as possible for women suffering from breast cancer.

She added: “That’s my plan, I want to go out and fight for victims of breast cancer.”
