A flood alert has been issued for the west Dorset coast, with a warning in place at West Bay harbour.

Poor weather conditions are expected up to four hours either side of high tide at 1.30pm to 3.30pm today.

Flooding to properties at West Beach and around the harbour is likely at these times, and large waves and spray are expected - so take care near coastal paths and promenades.

Flood water may cause localised standing water on roads between Park Dean Campsite and West Bay Road.

The forecast wind direction is southerly and the forecast wind strength is Force 7.

A warning has also been put in place at Lyme Regis harbour. High tide is forecast for 2.30pm and the warning will remain in place for two hours following this.

The forecast wind strength is also Force 7.

Water levels in the rivers in west Dorset, including the Lym, Winniford, Char, Simene, Brit, Asker, Mangerton and Bride, are rising. Persistent rainfall is forecast to continue until about 6pm today.

Property owners with flood protection equipment should consider installing it now.
