I am writing as chairman of the Wyke Regis Society, hoping you will give our views as much prominence as you have done the Weymouth Civic Society.

Our views on the problems of Portland Road have been misrepresented – we have asked for pollution monitoring, traffic calming and re-routing of vehicles from Old Portland Road, but we are against another road.

Calling it a Jurassic Highway does not obscure the fact that it will scar our coast and cause massive disruption to Wyke, and that, like the M25, it will soon be full, but without the option of an extra lane.

However, if a bridge can be proposed from Scotland to Ireland, why not one to Portland?

The engineering would not be any more complicated than a coast-side road and it has the advantage that it is an extra crossing, rather than stopping short halfway through Wyke.

And without a deep trench or long distance to complicate matters.

Visitors and members are welcome to join discussions at our next meeting at the Portland Road Working Men's Club, at 7pm on January 8.

GEORGINA SKIPPER,

Chairman,
