A CAR park in Lyme Regis has raised thousands of pounds for national and local charities.

During the summer months, Bob and Cynch McHardy opened their field off Haye Lane as a car park to raise money for Great Ormand Street Hospital, Cancer Research UK, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Lyme Regis Christmas Lights and Hooke Court in Malawi.

The team behind Hooke Court in Malawi received £3,500.

Hooke Court in Malawi was set up in 2015 to improve standards of primary education in the nine schools in the Bandawe area of Malawi that it is involved in.

Alan Vian, trustee of the charity, said: “It was incredibly busy in the height of summer and visitors were pleased to find somewhere in the centre of Lyme to park.

“They were even happier when they realised they were supporting so many worthy causes.”

Hooke Court in Malawi will be using the money to help fund a feeding programme for students in a group of rural schools in Malawi, as well as providing resources to compliment the work of the visiting teachers from Hooke Court.
