School choirs’ part of the Minerva Learning Trust (MLT) entertained the crowds at this year’s Bridport Christmas Cheer event.

Pupils from Bridport Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School, Burton Bradstock Primary School and the Sir John Colfox Academy performed in Bridport United Church in East Street.

A combined St Mary’s and Bridport primary choir opened proceedings, followed by the MLT choir, including children from Colfox and Burton Bradstock.

Burton Bradstock pupils finished off the singing with Christmas carols before groups from all schools played their rendition of Jingle Bells on recorders.

David Powell, chair of governors at Bridport Primary School, singled out the choir and music leader, Lauren Good, and thanked her for her contribution.

He said: “Lauren leads on the Minerva Trust music.

“The trust introduced recorder teaching this year and it was wonderful to see how she has developed the musical skill of so many children.”

Kay Taylor, executive principal of the Minerva Learning Trust, said: “It is wonderful to see our choir performing in the community.

“This would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, the Burton Bradstock Festival of Music and Art and Palmers Brewery.

“A rich education has to embrace all aspects of learning and the creative side is just as important as the academic.

“With funding so tight in schools, we are very lucky to be able to maintain our broad curriculum thanks to this financial support from our local community.”
